Happy Halloween! It seems as though the weather is fit for the holiday today, a bit dark and dreary. But that has done nothing to deter the hikers who have come to trick or treat at high altitude! Yesterday's high was 50 and the low was 29 overnight. Right now it is overcast and 47 degrees. Everyone have a safe and happy Halloween!

I'm scared to look at the picture. I'm afraid something may jump out at me from the dark...

Hey guys thanks again for another great night at the lodge. It was extra fun on halloween. I have a favor to ask. Could someone email me a couple of decent quality pics of looking inside the office door across the room, over the heater, rocking chairs, to the window/bookshelf. Other angles are welcome also. I am working on a blog about my visit and my pic turned out terrible. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I was up there today and it was beautiful! Cold and windy but clear.

To Ruthie and the crew...I hope you all had a spooky Halloween last night!! My prediction for the first snow flakes this fall is next Saturday, November 7th. Oh yeah..

Were you able to make it up to LeConte? Daily reader but very infrequent commenter. Just curious!

MMW, yes, I made it.....barely! It took me 8 and a half hours....rained the entire trip up....we had decided to turn around not to far up from Rainbow Falls, and a couple who had passed us going up earlier, that I told I was most likely going to give it up and turn around, came back down the trail to get me. They both were emergency room nurses in Florida and said they have a very good friend who has the same illness as mine who is unable to do this type of hiking, and they were impressed that I was trying. The 4 of us hit 50/55 mph winds about midway on the trail and by the time we made it up top the winds were said to be gusting to 80 to 85mph. They did not have plans to spend the night at the lodge, but I insisted they be our guests and enjoy the first lodge experience with us. For without their help, I would not have made it up that day!
