Oh Deer!

The vegetation is coming in strong and the deer are coming out in full force. We have quite a few around camp. It won't be long before we see their fawns frolicing around the cabins. I love this time of year. We seem to be a couple of weeks off for blooms. The sand myrtle has usually started to bloom on Cliff Tops and Myrtle Point, but we have not seen it yet. I have been asking locals about the fireflies in Elkmont, the word is "not yet". If you are hiking up today, you will have splendid weather. It is sunny and beautiful up top. The high yesterday was 67º with the low being 47º. The trails have quieted down a little bit. I know some schools are still in session, so the family vacations are not quite in full swing. Well, it is time to serve biscuits. We have 50 hungry guests patiently awaiting the breakfast bell. Happy Hiking.

What a day I'm missing out on ! It is a day when one should be hiking somewhere, particularly in the Smokies ! And more particularly, on Mt. Conte, and furthermore, to the lodge ! I believe that deer in the photo above migiht just be listening to that breakfast bell ! I hope that everyone who is actually out there right now is having a grand time !

Gina, we've also only been up spring and fall, it should be a lot warmer than what we're use to, it was just 18 degrees last April and every thing covered in hoar frost but beautiful, seen ya all Friday !!!

I think everything is off by a couple weeks everywhere. But here in Michigan last year my lilacs bloomed in early March when they were suppose to be blooming now. In the last 2 years it came so early. By the way on my big huge bush I had 3 lilacs last year and they ended up freezing. But yes, they usually bloom for my birthday May 7th and right now there in there prime. Just speaking of all the flowers pretty much everywhere. I think were now normal. If that's possible. lol

Glenn... From the lodge, climb the staircase & take a left. Soon a sign will read "Myrtle Point .07" Continue past the shelter & "High Top" (be sure to add a rock to pile)... Soon you should see a sign just to your right: "Myrtle Point .02" Total distance... Just shy of a mile. Bring something to snack on & enjoy the view!

Thanks AI S MS, stopped once at Myrtle Point when we came up the Boulevard Trail, but we stayed in the shelter and it was several years ago, we're so looking forward to Friday nite in the Lodge !!!
