Morning,

It was one of the most beautiful days I've ever seen yesterday. The high was only 28, but it was still as could be and the snow always seems to make the cold less bitter. The overnight low was 14. It was 18 and clear at observation.

I hiked down to Rainbow Falls yesterday. After about a mile, I descended below the clouds. It was misty and gray at the Falls. When I came back up, it was clear and the clouds still hadn't burnt off. I've never seen inversion last this long. It made for a spectacular sunset.

Thanks to my friends for hiking me up all sorts of goodies & my early Christmas gifts. It's been great seeing familiar faces. Thanks for the new vest, Mom!

I am planning on hiking out to Charlie's Bunion this morning. Hope everyone enjoys the glorious weather! Safe hiking!

People call me crazy too! And I'm not doing what your doing. But would love too. I think you've done your best work today in picture taking. The famous Leconte steps. Just can't beat it. And by the way mom's are the best. They'd do anything for their kids. Have a great day JP Enjoy!!

I suspect you'll like Charlies Bunion. D and I hike there from the other direction from time to time during the spring/summer and have a lunch. On clear days you can easily see past douglas lake. Maybe you'll take the short detour to Jump Off Point on the way.

JP, spectacular pictures. Enjoy Charlie's Bunion...it has great views too. Moms are wonderful..go the extra mile for their kids. Will you be able to spend Christmas with your family? Hope so..I was away from my mom's for one Christmas and said never again. Happy and safe hiking today.

Fantastic pictures of the sunset, looks like an ocean of clouds! Beautiful! Your so sweet for thanking your mom for the vest on the blog, does she read it? Cool way for her to stay in touch with you while your mountain top! :)

JP, I think this is going to be another amazing winter for Mt. Leconte. It look like they have another great caretaker who really cares about and enjoys what he is doing. And so far you are doing a really great job with the blog and wonderful pictures. Keep up the great job and be safe. Hope to see you up top next spring.

Thank's for the NOAA weather tip. Didn't even think of that. Went on line, but no TN options available. I'll have a radio when I arrive, though. I don't want to monopolize your time, but I was wondering if I started a Leconte forum and dropped a few novice winter hiker question on there would you be able to see them and reply to them?

Great inversion pics. Best offering that the mountains provide that you can't get anywhere else.

@Sheldon,
There is a LeConte Forum page on the blog. If you click on that page you can start another topic. Not only can JP answer but you can get some good tips from your fellow readers as well.

I guess there must be hundreds of people who'd like to be doing the caretaker job, including me, I'm right at the top of the list ! And it's not crazy. Perfectly sane in fact. Every day when I look at the postings and comments I get a bit envious naturally; It's a marvelous atmosphere up there at any time.

@Tony- the time off is awesome. Chris and I just got back from spending a week with our nieces and nephew at Disney World. A little different landscape, but it was a lot of fun.

@ Allyson. Thanks. Followed your advice. I have put something under off-topic. I also read through some posts looking for similar advice.

I was lucky enough to see an inversion like this December 22nd last year. I'll never forget it. Most spectacular sunset and sunrise I've ever seen! LeConte really is something special.
