Plenty of Sunshine

11/7/2010

Ahhhh, the sunshine is finally coming out. Hopefully the warm spell will help thaw things out around here. The mountain was full of activity yesterday. The 22 degrees did not keep day hikers from making the 5 mile trek up the mountain. Highway 441 opened just in time to give access to Alum Cave trail. The park service is currently working on getting Highway 441 opened this morning. You can call 865-436-1200 to find out road conditions. The road leading to Bullhead, Rainbow, and Trillium are all open. Due to the low of 12 last night, there will be plenty of ice on the trail. If you decide to hike up, please make sure you have ice walkers and good warm clothing.

miss LeConte so much. Last start up the Mountain was two years ago 2 mnths before I had a hip replaced but had to turn back after Alum Cave. Still needing back surgury but plan to hike up to Leconte next season, early in the year. My wife and I have been up there many times and thanks so much for this site and the pictures. We have own a home in Gatlinburg (we live in N. Ky) for 18 years so we love our mountains!

Absolutely Beautiful!!
Thank you so much for your website. Our family has made at least 1 trip a year to the mountains since I was a little girl. I have 2 grown sons and grandchildren now. Being able to see the area daily through webcams is wonderful. Heaven on Earth is what the Smokey Mountains are for me!
Thank You again!!!

OH MY! Your first shot of the snow and pink sunrise is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen! It makes my feet cold to look at it, but how gorgeous is that??? Many, many thanks again for your daily efforts.
