Plenty of Sunshine

Yesterday was a gorgeous day!! It started out being greeted by six doe running through camp. The sun came out and made for an amazing day. The high yesterday was 62. The crew soaked up as much vitamin D as possible. That was good thing considering it is dark and rainy this morning.

It was a wonderful day for my first hike to Mount LeConte...up Trillium Gap, lunch on the porch laughing & cutting-up in the rocking chairs with great friends, and return down Rainbow Falls. A very long but absolutely wonderful day that I won't forget! Thanks for great time.

Tony,
Rainbow Falls trail was good. Coming down you where always focused on getting good footing with all the various rocks and stream beds you were traveling in. We saw a lot of varied and beautiful flora. One of our group stopped and soaked his feet at Rainbow Falls which was beautiful. Plan on spending some time there.

@Jason - Wear hiking boots/shoes with good tread. Rain gear if you have it, be careful, take your time heading up, and enjoy. If it's a light soaking rain, it will be magnificent. We hiked down in a continually soaking rain in April last year and other than being completely soaked, the rain made for a Misty Mountain feel in the Smokies that day.

Thanks Doug. Next trip up we will try that route. Going to hike Mount Cammerer to see the fire tower this weekend. Did Charlie's Bunion two weeks age...amazing.

Planning a day hike up and back probably leaving from the Roaring Forks parking lot, taking our lunches. My question is Juanita will love it I'm sure!! Are day hikers allowed to use the potties (outhouses?) at the lodge?

Sue,
We did when we day hiked there. One of the doors looked like it was chewed up at the bottom. Come to find out it was...by a bear!

I came up Sunday for my first time with three others, two of which came up two years ago. I've been trying for 3 years to get a reservation but either booked or just not in my schedule. Great two days even for me with a bad knee! We came up Rainbow Falls (I agree with the previous rock statement) and back down Trillium. Enjoyed the Lamas! A great time was had by all! Waiting on a fixed knee and Oct 1 for next year's adventure. Thanks to all the staff!

Allison,

Enjoyed meeting you yesterday, thanks for taking a few minutes of your time before the helicopter drop to say hello. I visit this site everyday and love your pictures. I try to hike LeConte at least once a month and love the pictures between hikes. Thanks so much!

I did witness Doug and his buddies sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch and cutting up! Truly a wonderful day for those of us fortunate enough to hike to the top! We are blessed!
