It was a beautiful, sunny day on the mountain. A much needed dose of vitamin D for the crew that has been up top for a while. Chris and I enjoyed checking out the wildflowers on our hike up on Tuesday. The purple gentian is coming up around the grassy slide on the upper section of Alum. We saw some blueberries as well. It is starting out to look like another beautiful day. Time to get out and explore the mountain.

Now you've posted a flower I'm familar with {I really must get out my book of flowers and read through it again}; I've enjoyed this bloom many times in the past hiking Alum, even before staying at the lodge; It's truly amazing just how many species there are just within a close distance to the lodge. This morning while sipping on a cup of coffee on my back porch I noticed that it was 7:59a and I imagined that I could hear the bell call for breakfast from London, KY ! Sure wish I could have been there. Have a great day folks ! D.

Doug, being from London, KY have you been to Cumberland Falls? We did a 7 mile training hike there a few weeks ago. Neat area with falls and huge rocks along the first 2 miles although not the flowers and wildlife we expected.

Paul B.: I've done a lot of "training" hikes in the Cumberland Falls area; a nice place to visit, but give me the Smokies; I'm originally from Harlan Co. about 75 mi to the east; Thinking about relocating to Sevier Co.
