Rain Drops Keep Falling On My Head

9/17/2012

With 100% rain in the  forecast for today, I highly recommend anyone hiking up to bring their rain gear. It is cool and wet up top so bring a change of clothes for the top. The high yesterday was 58 with a low of only 50. The mountain ash trees are already starting to show some of their color. I have heard tales of certain areas in the park where the trees are already donning their fall colors. I am predicting it is going to be an early fall this year. I think we will see peak colors around the 2nd or 3rd week in October. I guess we will have to wait to see if my prediction is correct.

Good morning: You may be right on peak colors; here in the rooling hills of central KY there are already a lot of trees changing to their fall displays; might be a wet fall, too; your photo of the small stream reminded me of how available water is up on the AT; when I first took that thru-the-Park hike I was concerned about a good supply of water, but it was not a problem; Hope you have a good week.

Ahh, I remember hiking up (and down) in the rain. It has its own kind of beauty, so don't be deterred. Just be sure to take those dry clothes for the top.
