Rainy Day View

8/14/2012

"Art is the unceasing effort to compete with the beauty of flowers - and never succeeding."- Gian Carlo Menotti

The rain splattering my window gave these coneflowers a different feel. I am always looking for a unique way to capture the same view. The rain started last night around dinner time and continued into the early morning. My alarm was a crack of thunder. We received .35" of rain during the night. The high yesterday was 64 with a  low of 48.

Nice days here today and Wed. Need to sneak in a kyack trip with some old friends on Wed. and absorb some sunshine!! Then the rains are coming for Thursday.
A little chilly on the top for you all. Love the picture of the flowers, even if it does hurt my eyes to look at it,lol.
Enjoy those beautiful flowers, they probably won't last too much longer. I made my husband and son stand in front of them while I was up there and took a pic of the 2 of them. "Oh, sure put me in front of the pretty flowers and take my picture!" My husband said. But then again, I'm the one who was always carrying the camera. Poor guys, its so rough to be them. Yeah right! Enjoy

It feels like a touch of autuum around here, more rain approaching, gray skies, cool(er) tempertures; looks like another day of saturating myself with coffee and afternoon tea; the photos from the lodge help a lot; a few minutes ago I could have sworn that I heard the breakfast bell calling everyone to the morning meal ! It can't be the altitude here; probably just my deep desire to be up on the mountain ! G'day

Very artsy!

Yea, we're feeling the first nips of Autumn up here in the Philadelphia area this morning too. Though, the low was the same as your yesterday's high!

Beautiful flowers ! Just read that today marks the 75th anniversary of the completion of The Appalachian Trail. Happy Birthday to the A.T.

Allyson, I enjoyed reading your AT Trail story in the Knoxville News Sentinel today about your 2000 AT thru hike and how you met Chris. Enjoy reading the daily blog about Mt. LeConte and the Lodge.

Thanks for the heads up, I was able to find it on line. I agree with all of the stories. Although I haven't through hiked, I find time on any trail inspiring and life changing.

Did you "record" you AT hike on Trail Journals? What were your trail names?

Tony- yes, I did record my hike in trail journals. Chris was named "Otter" as in otter pop and I was "No Hurry". We still sign our cards to each other using those names. I know, we are hopeless romantics :)

Is your journal still on Trail Journals? Having a hard time finding it. If anyone is interested in reading a good trail journal, Certain's 2008
Appalachian Trail Journal is one of the best I've read.

I could have sworn that I again heard your breakfast bell a minute ago !! Must have my hearing checked, or my mind ! Hope the weather is treating you kindly up there. I didn't have a trail name when I was on the AT, but I guess it would have been "Turtle" ! G'day.
