Rainy Days

5/27/2014

The rattle of the windows and the flickering of lightning  coming through the curtains made it difficult to get out of bed this morning. We had a storm roll through about 6 a.m. that would make any adult want to pull the covers over their head and hide. Chris loves the thunderstorms that roll in, I am not such a big fan. I still play the game of counting from the crack of the thunder until the lightning strike. It still makes me a little uneasy when they happen at the same time.  I will admit, the  vegetation turns an extremely vibrant shade of green.

It was a rather mild Memorial Day. The high was 64º with a low of 51º. The mountain was not as busy as I thought it would be. I guess a lot of folks were heading home after their long weekend. If you are in the area and hiking up today, make sure you have some sort of rain gear or poncho. It is looking like it is going to be a wet day.

Wow! I would love being there right now, inside of course, during the storm and was suppose to be for my first trip up but a knee injury and new job kept me from coming. My friend is there instead and I hope she is having a grand time despite the weather. I will get there soon, even if I have to crawl. :) just sounds and looks so beautiful and serene thanks to the hard working staff.

We had an awesome trip up Bullhead(quite demanding) on Sunday and spent the night. It was a great experience and the staff was top of the line. The trip down Rainbow Falls concluded a memorable 2 days!

Rain in Michigan today also. Oh, how I love those stairs.

Maybe I'm weird, but I would have been sitting in one of those rockers on a porch watching that storm go through this morning! I think it's genetic though... my mom is the same way. I love sitting on a porch watching a storm. The energy off of them is awesome! The photos of those stairs is one of my favorites, love it!!

You are NOT weird Janet, for I, too, thoroughly love sitting on a porch during a storm. Only if a driving wind forces me indoors will I even move ! Nature's fury experienced up close and personal and Leconte Lodge is a wonderful place to do just that ! Yes, it's an energy of incomparable intensity. Nice to read your comments on this. G'day.

I saw Pat Northrup's photo of the blooming Rhododendron at Inspiration point, via the GSMA, yesterday -- very exquisite image.

I have never been in the Smokies while they were in bloom; perhaps next year I'll try to time a trip accordingly with that event.
