Roaming the mountainside

"Just what future the Designer of the universe has provided for the souls of men I do not know, I cannot prove. But I find that the whole order of Nature confirms my confidence that, if it is not like our noblest hopes and dreams, it will transcend them. " - Henry Norris Russell

It was  a beautiful day in the neighborhood yesterday. Chris and I got out of camp for a little while and explored our back yard. I have decided I have the best back yard in the state of Tennessee. The high yesterday was 43 with a cold night that reached 29. It is currently 32 degrees and the sun is shinning bright. Hopefully I can get out of camp again and do a little more exploring. I never seem to get tired of discovering all the nooks and crannies of this mountain.

We usually volunteer with the Park in the spring (VP-2) but could not this year. I am longing to be in your backyard.

Can anyone report on the progress of the sand myrtle blooms?

Also any reports of early Catawba blooming at Inspiration Point?

I love your backyard. As a child I lived on a farm with a woods behind us, it was my backyard. I loved going there to explain and play. I've grown up so the mountain seems like a wonderful place for a backyard!
Question I want to hike up Rainbow and back another. Is there another trail that is close to where I'll park for Rainbow?

Pam, you can hike down bullhead, it will bring you back right at the parking lot for rainbow. If you want to hike a little farther, you can come down trillium to the grotto falls parking lot and hike another 2.2 miles or so on roaring fork road or through the woods back to your car.

Last time we stayed at the lodge we went up Rainbow Falls and down Bullhead. It took us longer than using ACB, but it was great. Once we were past the falls it was less crowded than ACB. Great views from upper Bullhead.

Hiked up Rainbow (3.5 hrs) and down Bullhead (3 hrs) in January this year with about 5 inches of snow on the ground. Great trails. When you reach what seems like to end of Bullhead, bear right at the gravel road to get back to the Rainbow trail head parking.

I must agree with the others, you have the best backyard ! I live on 85 acres near London, KY, and I love the view around me; nearest neighbor is over 1/2 mi away which is great; All kinds of wildlife around my house; I'm blessed; Yet, I, like many others, long to be at the lodge which for me has a magical appeal to my spirit; I am thankful for this site and comments; I apprecaite it;
