We made it!!! It was a tough hike. Alum Cave still has a bit of ice and snow on it. It has been warm enough to start melting and it made the snow turn into that soft, slushy, mix. The ground was warm enough to melt the underside of the snow, so you would break thru about 15 inches or more. The low last night was 25 and the high yesterday was 41 degrees. We did get another inch of snow last night. There is about 20 inches on the ground. Today is going to make for a long day of shoveling. It is time to get the ground ready for the helicopter to bring supplies.
This is Arch Rock. The stairs have melted, but as you can see, there is still quit a bit of ice to the right.
Meet Stan. Stan ran up behind on the trail. He holds the record for running all 46 miles to LeConte in under 12 hours. And yes, I said running.
