I believe in good omens. This one is triply good.
Unbelievable! Three evenings in row we have been given beautiful, full, double rainbows. That has got to mean something amazing! Yesterday's high was 67 and the low over night was 48, again afternoon showers produced rain that was not enough to measure, but perfect for refracting light right around dinner time. Right now it is cool, only 54, and cloudy. Alum is open for the Labor Day holiday and we are already very busy! Everyone have a wonderful holiday!

That sky, though...

I did a double take, or should I say, a triple take at today's post. I thought you re-ran Sunday's pictures until I saw the date and captions. I agree with Linda... thank you for sharing these shows of nature to us every day.
I think the rainbows are "charging up" the trees for a color show in the next few weeks... and with three in a row... the colors should be quite wonderful!

That's a lot of rainbows. Must be happy folks up there. Hope everyone is having an amazing Labor Day!

The weather forecast looks a bit dodgy, at the moment, for my late Saturday afternoon hike up catch the sunset at Cliff Tops. With any luck, I'll be on the trail by 4:00 p.m. I'm sure I'll see many of the guests for that day at the overlook.

It seems I have so many questions (thank you Ashley, but why the late start)
So, Kent, same question for you, why not go up earlier and are you staying at the shelter? Surely you are not hiking down AFTER sunset.
But you have been talking to Jenny B and she would just minimalist camp somewhere. The suicide story doesn't quite make sense unless she felt the fall was one from which she could not walk out and always kept a couple of tabs with her. That just barely adds up.

Well, I'm coming down for Jenny's memorial hike, but will only have two nights. It's probably crazy to attempt to do such a long hike after a nine-hour drive, I guess. I just wanted to take advantage of every moment I was here. Luckily, I can sleep late on Sunday, since the memorial doesn't kick off until 2:00 p.m.

I thought about staying at the shelter, but I've always wanted to a night hike, anyway.

Honestly, I just don't want to speculate on what happened that day with Jenny. I'd rather just remember her with that beaming smile on her face, and her unique spirit. She's the only one who knows and her voice has been silenced forever.

I'm with Kent. I don't need to understand exactly what happened that day. I just continue to send my love to Jenny.
