Good Afternoon,
It sure looks like everybody is basking in the sunshine today except us. These clouds continue to cling to the mountain top, preventing the morning dew from drying out and keeping things a little cooler. Yesterday's high temperature was 65 degrees followed by a low of 44. Still humid down below, but today's llama train made it up just fine with crew groceries and linens. We're starting to see some more bear activity around camp. Please keep us posted anytime you see one, not just here at the lodge, but along the approach trails as well. That way we can take appropriate action in notifying the NPS and ensuring the safety of the bear and guests. As always, please don't feed the bears, as this only encourages bad habits. Thank you. Have a great day.

Which trails are closed to the lodge?

That bear has a sad face. Just looks like it wants some company or saying "hey, this is my home, not yours!". Wish I was still making the hike up in a few weeks, but I had to make the hard decision to cancel. Have to wait on some news from my neurologist, but I think it was safer for me to cancel at this point. Maybe I'll still be able to nab someone else's cancellation and my husband and I can still get to hike up. I'm going to miss that night at the lodge this year for sure!

Why would the Lodge want to be notified if I see a bear on the trails? Don't bears live there? Aren't they allowed on trails? I am confused.

I had the enormous pleasure of being at LeConte Lodge for my 64th birthday which was September 27th. Three of my girlfriends and I hiked up and spent the nights of Sep 26th and Sep 27th. It took 8.5 hours for us slow ladies but we made it and it was worth every grueling step! (My first real hike). We weren't in a hurry and wanted to absorb all of the beauty on the way up, breathe the fresh mountain air and experience life at the lodge. We met some wonderful people! Thanks for an incredible experience!
