Good Morning,
The holiday weekend and last hurrah of the tourist summer is finally upon us. And it is shaping up to be an outstanding time for outdoor exploration. The sun is up and the humidity is down, a perfect combo for soaking up some southern mountain skies in the coming days. There are a few peak-level clouds still hanging around, but today and tomorrow are promising abundant sunshine. Temps are in the lower 50s currently, and we should ascend into the lower 60s for the afternoon. The rain and thunderstorm chances seem to return for the Smokies by late Sunday and could stretch into Labor Day Monday. Winds will be light, but with these newfound cooler temps, that could add a bit of a chill for those aren’t quite ready for it. So be sure and bring the layers, especially for enjoying those stunning sunsets. A reminder that our reservations office will be closed on Monday in observance of the federal holiday, so if you have any last minute questions before making a visit to the lodge this weekend, be sure and reach our dedicated team before 5:00 PM tonight. Our office will resume answering phones and emails during normal business hours Tuesday morning. With it being a holiday weekend and such stellar weather in the forecast, it’s no mystery to expect that traffic in and around the Smokies will be heavy. So plan your routes and start times accordingly if you have concerns about avoiding the congestion. Patience is key when visiting the nation’s most visited national park! Have a great day.
