SNOW!!!!!!!!!

10/4/2010

Picture
Winter is officially on the mountain. 3" of fresh snow greeted us this morning. This is the biggest first snow since 1979. The high yesterday was 39 degrees and the low was 24. I guess it is time to pull out the  winter clothes.

Love it! I am so glad to high heat and humidity is over!! Looking forward to seeing the snow on Doug's mountain - I can see it, as soon as the fog lifts today.

Awesome! I am leaving this weekend for a 5 day hike in the Smokies and was hoping for snow. I understand this is high up, but I hope it stays around for a while and maybe even spread out a little...! Nice pic. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the update! We live just below LeConte, but haven't been able to see the snow yet, what with all the cloud cover! Is there an on-line source of weather information from Mt. LeConte?

Some of us are slightly envious of your spot to live in the world. And, I would say that we all are in awe of a 50-mile one-day hiking performance...and I thought a marathon was a long way.....

Bummer... cold weather stay away!! I'll be looking up at the peaks from Fontana Lake next week, where I'll be hiking and living on my boat for a week. It's supposed to be in the upper 70's later this week.

We experienced the Monday surprise at Clingmans Dome. Two hikers started at Newfound Gap and hiked to Clingmans Dome. Two of us attempted to drive to Clingmans Dome and hike down doing a key swap with the others.

Unfortunately the road to the Dome was closed due to snow an ice and didn't open until about noon.

Are there any doubts that nature rules over man?

I was there with my wife for my 56th B'Day....received a nice B'Day chorus from the dinner crowd that evening. The snow was a definite B'Day surprise for us. We are confirmed for my 57th next October. Thanks to the Leconte Lodge Staff & Guests for a very memorable hike and stay in the Great Smokies!!

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN. Do you think so?
