At present I am subsisting on certain wild flowers which Nature wafts to me, which unaccountably sustain me, and make my apparently poor life rich. Within a year my walks have extended themselves, and almost every afternoon (I read, or write, or make pencils, in the forenoon, and by the last means get a living for my body) I visit some new hill or pond or wood many miles distant. I am astonished at the wonderful retirement through which I move, rarely meeting a man in these excursions, never seeing one similarly engaged, unless it be my companion, when I have one. I cannot help feeling that of all the human inhabitants of nature hereabouts, only we two have leisure to admire and enjoy our inheritance. Thoreau
Morning,

It was a blustery day atop LeConte. The mountain received 1.42" of precipitation. The high was 44. The low was 30. It was 30 and flurrying at observation! Surprise snow! Really?! Nature! You're so considerate!

Love the softness of the black and white picture. Hope you get some more snow today to play in. Love the haiku too!

@ JP, Have you met Ranger David Worth up on the mountain? That fellow is the Smokies version of Super Man. Doing the 72 miles of the AT thru the park in under 15 hours and doing all the official trails to LeConte for a total mileage of 44the miles in about 10 hours. AMAZING. !

Hey JP: When I was younger I could have done the A.T. through the park much in the same time that Ranger Dave did, but I had no desire then to rush things; rather, let me do that segment in 15 days, enjoying every mile of it ! I care not to attempt to preserve my body until I pass on, but would prefer to slide in sideways with a chocolate bar in one hand and a glass of wine in the other yelling "Whoooo, what a ride !" Like others, your photos bring some freshness into my life every day; thanks; Might be able to say hello in person in another week or two when I plan to hike up Alm and down Trillium; will try to bring you a sample of that Russian Tea I mentioned before; If I miss you somehow I'll leave it by the dining hall; cheers.
