Still A Few Meteors In The Sky

10/22/2012

A perfect ending to a perfect day. I guess the Alabama fans went home. The mountain seemed a tad bit quieter. There were not as many folks milling around the mountain top. The colors in the lower elevations are still hanging on. I have seen some beautiful pictures from the Cades Cove end of the park. The leaves are still spectacular over there. We enjoyed a nice day yesterday. The high was 55 with a low of 36. It was actually comfortable enough to hang out on the back porch and see if I could see any more meteors. I was lucky enough to see two.

I agree with you on Cades Cove; rode the loop there by bicycle the other day and colors were great; a few slick spots on the road where leaves had blanketed the pavement; it's always a good ride on Saturday and Wednesday mornings when it's closed to autos for a time; clouds here limited sightings of meteors; G'day

Did I read that right, it was a perfect end to the day cause the Alabama fans went home? LOL

Now, now, Tony, would I say something like that? ;) I am from Alabama after all.

I love reading your posts and seeing the pictures while I recover from a slip I took coming down alum Wednesday morning. Took my eyes off the long log for a split second and broke my leg :( It made for a long slow hobble back to the car. So while I lay here I dream of the beautiful hikes and night spent on Le conte. Your posts make me happy and I think I have read at least 6 months of old posts!!!

betsy Pa, sorry to hear about your fall. I know how easy it is to trip and fall on the trail, you just hope you hit the ground right and not hurt anything. Hope you have a fast recovery.

Betsy, wishing you a speedy recovery and, hopefully, your next trek to LeConte will be less traumatic.

Well, thats a fine way to end a trip. For what its worth thank goodness you did it on the way down rather than not being able to enjoy the time up there first. So sorry! Lucky for you, you us to entertain you. lol

Oh my, Betsy! That is hard core. You know we would have been happy to put together litter team together and carried you off the mountain. I wish you a speedy recovery so you can come back to see again.

Thanks I will remember that for the next trip I was hoping it was a sprain that is why I walked down. I have never had any injuries hiking besides blisters so the pain was a new experience for me. I guess that is hard core or stupidity lol

That took a lot of courage, BetsyPa, to hobble down the trail with a broken leg ! I really admire you for that feat ! I will recommend you for "The Royal Order of the Crutch" !! Your account should serve as a reminder to other hikers that being careful on any trail is very important. I've hiked alone in the Park for a lot of years and your story gives me pause to consider that perhaps I should now hike with a companion. Hope your recovery is swift and sure.
