"Happiness depends upon ourselves." - Aristotle

Yesterday was a great opening day. The weather was splendid. Blue skies everywhere. The high was 58 with a low of 42. The clouds have settled in on us this morning. It looks like rain for our future.

Wish I was there. If the weather holds out will do a day hike up the first week of April.

Glad opening day was great and the weather sounds wonderful. Our weather here in Indiana has been great too. Perfect hiking weather! We have been hiking in some of our state parks to help keep ourselves ready for our hike up next week. Cant wait!

Does anyone have any information on Bullhead? We're hiking up Alum Saturday, but would like to come down Bullhead Sunday if it's OK.

I know this isn't the usual post, but due to a death in the family my son and I won't be able to go on 3/24 as planned. If you contact Christie in the reservation office she now has a place open on 3-24-2011.

10 days and counting down...4/1/11 we leave GA and head to Sieverville. We will day hike up LeConte using the ACT sometime the following week with a 2.5 year old. We've hiked with him many times before (he loves it) but hopefully we'll make it to the top of LeConte with him in his backpack carrier; hubby carrying him, me carrying supplies.

If not, we'll make it back to summit the mountain with hiking friends later in the year. For now, I can hardly hold myself still....only 10 more days!!!

My husband and 18 year old daughter are headed up tomorrow behind the llamas, hopefully. My husband had hip replacement surgery almost 5 months ago! Be good to 'em! Their names are Tim and Megan.

Oh Lisa I had a hip replacement a few months ago and I am planning my first hike to LeConte in June. Please let me know how it goes, unless it does not go well, but I'm sure it will.

I don't know much about bikes, but I do have a beach cruiser I love to ride back in FL. Wheeeeeeeeee!

Glad you're off to a good start. I really like the picture on this post; I don't recall seeing this angle or lens before; is this going to be a regular feature. Get ready for dogwood winter here before long.

What happened to the bulk of the replies that disappeared from today's post?

Hopefully, the owner of this blogsite will figure out someway to regain control of it. This wonderful website about the beauty and splendor of the Smokey Mountains is just a hair short of becoming a farce.

I think the hint is, this is no place for debate. Which is nice ( even though I get caught up in it sometimes). She's right to try to keep this a happy place. : )

Folks, I enjoy a good debate as much as the next person. There are several great blogs out there that allow these debates about the park. I would like to let them have the honor. This blog was started as a place for people to share with one another their stories of the mountain and to help the future visitors to the mountain. As Tony stated above, let's keep this a happy place. I will try and check the blog more often to help maintain our happy space. Now, go take a hike :)
