T for Texas, T for Tennessee

2/17/2011

High 43, Low 25.

That was the easiest hiking on Alum that there's been since I've started care taking. It's all been packed down very well, but it is still very, very icy in spots. Been a lot of people walking around this week so far, completely different up here with others up here!

I have a buddy that I've worked with in Alaska the past few summers that will be traveling with me this year. It's looking to be like March 9th is when I'll be posting my last post.

Dan, I'll add up that snow total here in the next few days and let you know.

And, I'm not sure what the bottom of trillium looks like for sure at the bottom since it's been a few weeks since I've been down there, but when I was at the bottom last, There was hardly any sign of there being snow at all. But we did get some snow since then, but it's also been warm now for a while.

Never used a GPS while hiking before.

Around the 13th or so, the new crew will be hiking up and soon after the helicopters will start flying in new supplies for the year.

How is the Boulevard? We are coming up Alum March 27th staying at the lodge and hope to go out the Boulevard the next day. We tried to do it last year but it wasn't open so we didn't get to do it. Thanks. Anne

Alex,
Are you planning on coming back to LeConte next year or is it to early for that decision? I think I can say we ALL have enjoyed your blog. Fantastic pictures, interesting comments and info. I know you still have a few weeks left but let me say a huge thanks for all you have done this winter and best wishes for a great hike in France. Although you will be leaving, we will now have Allyson's pics to look forward to. Spring / Summer warm weather!!
I just started my first batch of Manchurian Tea. I'll let you know how it turns out. Take care and be safe.

How are the conditions on 441/Newfound Gap? Is the road still covered in ice/snow/rocks?

I have enjoyed your blog all this winter. I will miss the comments and photos and hope to follow the people taking over. How was the moon these last few nights. It must have been beautiful on the snow. Amy

Glad to hear that you have a friend hiking with you this summer, oui? Thanks for the picture of the moon, already put it on my wallpaper, my camera isn't good enough to capture that image and believe me I have tried....unless someone knows any good tricks and they want to share them! ;)

Reo Speedwagon Lyrics remind me of you and your awsome photos-----

"Riding the Storm out
Waiting for the thaw out
On a full moon night in the
Rocky Mtn (Mt LeConte) winter
My wine bottle's low
Watching for the snow
I've been thinking about what
I've been missing in the city.

And I'm not missing a thing
Watching the full moon crossing the
range.
Riding the storm out."
"Its a hard life to live
But it gives back what you give."
"Riding the storm out"

Thanks Alex, for giving so much. It has been beautiful!
