The Countdown is On

9/24/2013

I am happy to report we had another gorgeous day on top of the mountain. The high was 52º with a low of 36º. I knew September was going to be amazing, it was just a matter of getting through the rainy months. We noticed, on our season countdown, we only have 65 more days. You can feel the crew's excitement as they figure out their winter plans. The first thing Chris and I are going to do is pull out our bathing suits and run for a beach. If all goes according to plan, that beach will be on Kauai. I can feel the sand between my toes as I am typing. I am a mountain girl who knows how to appreciate a good beach every now and again.

I have the beach like you girls (Gina and Allyson) have the mountains. I prefer my pool over the sand. But I guess like everyone, want what you can't have (always) and appreciate what you do have. lol I'm a wanna be mountain girl.

Viva la difference!
I have always been a lake person. Give me access to a clean lake and I am a happy camper. I moved to SC over 30 years ago and quickly learned to love the mountains. Put a lake in the mountains and it just doesn't get any better. Subsequently I met my wife who had no experience with lakes or mountains. She loved the beach. I learned to love the beach and she the lakes and mountains. Fortunately, here in SC we can get to either in a few hours drive!

What part of SC do you live in, TomK. I'm in the Anderson area and like that I can hit mountains or beach in short time too.

Simpsonville x27 27 miles north of the 385/26 intersection.
. . .and in Anderson you are right near Hartwell, although Jocassee is my favorite.

If I were rich I would have one house on the beach and another in the mountains and travel back and forth.

Tony Ga, I like the way you think. That would make me and the whole family happy. I would have my mountain and my girls would have their beach. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY

"Kuwahi" was the Cherokee name for Clingmans Dome.

Just noticed that there is lodge room opening for on Thursday the 26th. 2 adults minimum. Call the lodge office if interested.

From what I've seen and been told, the lodge is a great place to work; I'm sure after several months of the same routine it could get to the point where one might anticipate its ending date; I think that if it was me working there, I'd rather not like leaving such a wonderful location; Each to his/her own opinion, though.

Have a wonderful time in Kauai. It's not GSMNP and I can imagine you've checked out things to do but since we've had such great experiences with the mountaintop staff we'd love to return the favor and connect you with our experiences there. Let me know and I can forward some information.
