The clouds moved out and the helicopter moved in. We were able to get about 4 hours of flying time in. Today will be last 3 hours. Spirits have picked up and we now have fresh food on the mountain. Funny how a little thing like an orange makes your day brighter. Once the airlift is done, the crew will get to work on making the lodge beautiful for the first day of guests on Monday.
The weather yesterday was decent. The high was 37 with a low of 28. Snow is continuing to melt off. Please, if you are hiking up here this weekend, check out my earlier post on trail closings. Have a safe hike and see you up top.

Airlift in the snow! It looks so beautiful up there; I am so jealous! Hope you have a great crew this year and the last day of airlift goes well!

In the tranquility of the Smokies, the sight of tht helicopter would certainly be different; welcome, but different; am assuming that all the propane tanks are exchanged; looks like the snow should continue to melt; am eagerly anticipating coming April 4th; the hike up might do me in, but I'll make it if I have to crawl; glad the airlift got underway;

I imagine that the airlift is accomplished by now; sure wish I were in the Park today, but I must drive home to London, KY for the weekend; just work in Harlan weekdays; engineering work can be boring at times; looking forward to my lodge visit with much eagerness; got to meet some of the crew this coming trip.

Spent a new years eve up there several years. The shelter was almost empty, but we had snow. Loved it. Comments are closed.
