The Rhododendron is Blooming!

6/15/2013

I was beginning to wonder when we were going to see some color on the mountain. Finally, the rhodo is starting to bloom. We seem to be a couple of weeks behind.  For those of your wondering about the azaleas, they may be behind as well.  Chris said the mountain laurel is on its way to peaking around Inspiration Point. The cold spring is throwing everything off. I guess I should say cold spring and summer. The high yesterday was 59º with a low of 40º. We did have a beautiful day around the lodge. Today is starting off with blue skies. This weekend is going to be a great weekend to hike up your favorite mountain. I was going to say we would have plenty of cold lemonade waiting for you, but with these temperatures, you may want some hot chocolate. In any case, we will have both. I am going to take a walk around the mountain top and see if I can get some good pictures of the sand myrtle. We will need one for the LeConte Lodge calendar.

Its been chilly in Michigan this Spring too. 58 this morning. But having temps in the 70's here is not a bad thing, when I keep reading the post of how hot it is down there not on the mountain. Bring on the flower pictures, we're ready!!

Pretty photo. Love flowers! It's been hot here in Florida so your cool temps sound really good to me.
Have a glorious blessed weekend up there on the mount!!

Around 80 here today- Feels great --humidity lower today too. Even with rain a day or two ago, the air did not clear enough to see the mountains well. Could see just a faint outline. Hope to be able to see you soon. I miss it in the warmer months. Can often see you in winter when it snows. The direction of sunlight in relationship to north Knox County makes the snow glow and clears up the view form here. Hope we can see you soon. Loved the rhodo pics this morning.

Was that our Rocky Top here in Tn? The rattlers are out there in these mtns. I have run across 3 already this year on the trails here in the smokies. Please people watch where you step on these sunny days. Safety should be first!
