A good part of yesterday was beautiful and sunny. The clouds starting rolling in around dinner time. It made for a dramatic sunset. The high yesterday was 64º with a low of 48º. The lodge is currently shrouded in cloud cover. It smells like rain is in our future. The families are on the mountain. You can tell school is out. Last night we had a dining room full of little ones ranging from 16 months on up. It brings a smile to my face to see multi-generations sitting at one table. LeConte Lodge is a great tradition to pass on.

It certainly is a delight to see families at the lodge. I was privileged to sit with a family at dinner on my very first visit there in 2004; they were celebrating the 80th birthday of a nice gentleman with whom I had hiked the last mile to the lodge with. He was very engouraging.

Have a good time Debnfl. Will be waiting to hear of your adventurous day. School in Michigan is still in session until June 5th. And then only 2 more years we can say last day. I said to my husband anytime can then be our spring break to climb a mountain or walk a Florida beach instead of planning around a school year. Yeahhhh!! Beautiful picture today Allyson.

High Point (High Top, actually) is the pile of rocks on the right of the path between the lodge and Myrtle Point. At 6593' it is the highest point on LeConte. There is no view at High Top, but the view at Myrtle Point is spectacular! 5/29/2013 03:47:23 am
I still can't believe that, in ALL my adventures in the GSMNP, I haven't been up to Mt. LeConte, even just for the view! It is near the top of my Outdoor Adventure Bucket List! Comments are closed.
