Good Afternoon,
Amen for the rain! After a week and a half of arid conditions across the region, a little wet weather finally found its way to the Smokies. Our gauge tallied just 0.41” of liquid precip, but we’ll gladly take what we can get. We managed to reach a high of 42° yesterday afternoon, followed by an overnight low of 22°. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for the rising sun to start warming things up as we’re already basking in the lower 40s this afternoon. The air is calm and the sunshine abundant, spectacular for getting out and about on the trails today. Now that we’ve had a fresh dose of precip, travelers to the mountain can expect icy patches under foot, particularly in the shaded areas, upper elevations, and during the bookends of the daylight hours. Having those traction devices handy can make the difference between staying upright or getting up close and personal with the rocks and roots via one’s backside. Better to leave the ice skating this time of year to Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and the gang! Could wake up to some brief snow showers tomorrow, but the sunshine beckons in the meantime. Time to get outside and soak up that crisp and clear mountain air! Have a great rest of the day. J-Train
