Water Pumps

8/16/2011

Gorgeous morning on the mountain. It feels like fall with the cool, crisp air and bright blue sky. I took a picture of our pump house for you. This is where the water pump is housed. We have three types of water pumps for the lodge. The first one is a ram pump. It runs when we are getting a heavy amount of rain. It works off of the water flow. We have a gas powered water pump for the times we are not getting much rain or sun. The last one is a solar powered pump. It works off of the solar panels. The solar pump is great because it cuts out noise pollution. So far this summer, we have not had to use any other pump. The sun created enough power to run the pump for the past few months.

Pump house? Are water sources near the two 3-room cabins from a pressurized water system? I always thought they were points tapping spring water somewhere. Otherwise, is the pump-house water for the kitchen only? Where is the pump-house? I'll be up this weekend to check it out! Can't wait!

We collect all of the water for the mountain from the spring which is located a little ways down Trillium trail. The water goes into a collection tank and the pump then pumps it up hill to our huge storage tanks where we treat it. It is then sent down to camp with a gravity fed system.

We like to hear about the "workings" of the Mountain, thank you. Maybe a privy picture sometime soon and that process as well? That entire little community you manage up there fascinates us flatlander's!

If you really want to stay at the lodge, there are now five slots available for this SAT the 20th. I just released them subject to someone snapping up at least four slots. So, flatlanders, pick up the phone, jump in the car and make it happen! It would be extra nifty if HOL visitors hiked!

Yea, I was asking a lot of questions about the mechanics when I was there. Being that I'm building my home off-grid, it's neat to see how others handle the same challenges.
