Henry reported from the mountain that the low was 23 and at 8:30 it was only up to 24, with clouds coming and going. It should warm up into the 40's-50's on the mountain today, 60's in the valley. They have about 4 inches of snow. Guests reported seeing snow just above the Bluffs on Alum Cave trail. He said that the trails were not slick yet as the snow is not hard packed. As of 8:30 am, US 441, Newfound Gap Road was closed, but they hoped to get it open soon. Call 865-436-1200, then hit 631 when someone begins to speak to check to see if it has reopened.

I'm hiking up tomorrow with a group of 9 wild and crazy women. A few have made the trip before, but for most of us it will be the first time. We're all very excited about our adventure! Hopefully, the snow will melt today and we'll have beautiful weather. Thanks for all of your updates and tips as it has helped with getting our trip planned. Looking forward to a great time!

We had an awesome hike up Alum Cave Trail on the 27th in the rain and sleet and then it turned to snow just before we arrived at 3 pm. The 4 inches of snow were so beautiful. And the next morning we hiked out to Mrytle Point after breakfast and were in awe of the beauty of the snow and ice. But we watched the helicopter fly in to airlift a lady out...do you know her outcome...is she OK? She was heavy on my heart that day. Comments are closed.
