Weather Forecast?

11/17/2014

Good morning from the mountain. I apologize for not posting yesterday, I am having some technical difficulties with my personal computer and I had to get the lodge computer powered up. Unfortunately, I am working on a way to download a photo. I used my phone on my other computer and it is not linked to this computer. So, I will take the day to figure out the issues. I have already sent my camera and card reader off the mountain, so, I have no backup like I normally would.

I am sure you are wondering what the weather is doing. Right now, it is 40 degrees and raining. We have received 1.21" of rain over the last 24 hours. The high was 41 with a low of 31. We can not tell what the weather is going to do. This has been the strangest forecast. We notice it keeps changing. We will keep you posted on any updates that might affect your hike up. For now, it is just rain.

We have some exciting media coverage in the works. Channel 6, WATE, out of Knoxville is on their way up the mountain to broadcast a live media coverage from the mountain. As far as I know, this has never been done before. I believe they are starting with the 4 o'clock news. It should be interesting to see if this is going to work. If you are in the Knoxville viewing area, tune in and you can see the weather for yourself.

Will the TV crew carry their cameras and equipment up the trail with them? That would be a heavy load after a few miles. Hope you get the photos loaded to the computer!

Please try to post the video clip on your website here, or tell us where we can watch it, after it has been recorded. That would be awesome! we came up alum cave bluff to Mount LeConte a week ago today and Pat ran out the front door and photobombed my selfie that me and my wife were taking... I posted this picture on my Instagram account and on Facebook and it is hilarious! thanks Pat that was brilliant!

I am always glad to see that the lodge could receive some good publicity. I will be watching that station at 4:00p this afternoon, too. It's certainly a task to tackle such an assignment and I believe that a good report should come out of it. I am not the biggest fan of some of the media but nonetheless the media is quite a necessary part of our free society. I am wondering how many readers here remember the segment aired on the Travel Channel a few years ago featuring Samantha Brown ? For the most part it was a favorable report, but in my opinion there was one part that wasn't so favorable, unless my memory fails me. I refrain from commenting on this part here, but did so at length on my own web site. Regardless, I am happy to see new reports on and from the lodge. I hope there's an ample amount of time devoted to it !

I remember the Travel Channel having Samantha Brown on. For the most part it was pretty good. Anytime I can see the Mountain I'm excited.

For anyone like me who is outside the Knoxville TV area, WATE streams all of their newscasts live. Just google "WATE Knoxville" and it'll take you straight to their homepage. Then, click on the "live stream" icon at the top of the page. I was just there and it is up and running... until, of course, us LeConte fanatics overload their servers!
As for the technical aspects... live TV equipment has become much more mobile and lighter in the past decade... but it would still be a haul to get it to the top. I also have a picture in my mind of a male reporter in a suit or a female reporter in high heels arriving at work this morning and being told they have to hike up a 5 mile trail to get to their report!

Elktonbrant : lol I liked your imagination - sounds like a Lucille Ball sort of movie.

Visit www.wate.com. They have several videos posted, including a recording of the live report from the doors of the LeConte Lodge dining room!
