We're Back!!!

9/8/2010

Chris and I are back from our days off. Sorry we were gone for so long. Chris planned an Alaska adventure for me to celebrate my 40th birthday. We took our August and September days off together so we would have more time to enjoy the state and do some hiking. We visited some LeConte friends who now live in the giant state of Alaska. The mountain is still here and the Smoky Mountains trail crew has been hard at work. Alum Cave trail was in great shape. We suggest if you hike up Alum and agree with us that you drop a line to the crew that did such an amazing job at fixing the trail. The weather has been fantastic. The crew says the fall air is settling in. The nights have been cold. The weather log has a few nights in the 30's. It feels great to be back and I will be with you for a while. I believe we have 35 day stretch until our next days off. I thought I would leave you with a peak of what we did while in Alaska.

Hi Allyson: When I logged on a few minutes ago and saw your photo at the Harding Icefield I nearly fell out of my seat. I had the opportunity to spend a few weeks in Alaska some years ago and one of the places I went to was that icefield, and unless my memory fails me (I was recently diagnosed with CRS---"Can't Remember Stuff" !) the spot where you two were sitting appears to be nearly exactly the same spot I was those years past; probably not, but it sure looks the same; I had the wonderful pleasure of hiking through the Brooks range in central Alaska, and if I ever get there again, I'm not coming back ! It's a truly beautiful and breath-taking place !

Good one. Could we see your Alaska album? We are at 7500 feet in Big Sky Montana and our weather is even cooler than yours. We had 4" of snow Monday!
