What A Difference A Day Makes

3/6/2012

What a difference a day makes.
The clouds finally blew off the away from the mountain and gave us a chance to start the airlift. The temperatures hovered in the mid teens so it made for a cold day. The temperature is currently in the 30s this morning. It is going to be a balmy day on the mountain. We are getting started early this morning so I will keep this short and sweet. I have supplies to unload.

Those are not clouds. That is the snow the helicopter blew around.

Surely a sign of Spring with the annual helicopter supply drop. Welcome back after what seems like an extremely quick winter or lack there of.

For those of us confined to our cubicles 50 weeks a year (and our wives), this is like prepping for Christmas! Looking forward to being on top the later part of April - can't wait!!!

@Dwight, I couldn't of said it better. Being stuck in a cubicle for 50 weeks makes this place heaven on earth. Will be there in two weeks. Can't wait!

Glad you had a great winter Allyson. Didn't make my annual trip up the week after Christmas this year but will see you guys in Sept. if not before. Looking forward to 17 in a row.

Good luck today Allyson. We hope we can squeeze in a visit to the Smokies and a hike up to the Lodge this year. We were spoiled by being able to make 2 trips last year. Every day I read this blog and yearn to spentd a couple hours away from this daily grind hiking through that wilderness you get to experience everyday!

The picture of the helicopter makes me think of Ed Wright. He enjoyed coming to the mountain at this time of the year and seeing everyone. Great memories!!

@Connie, I too often think of Ed and count myself blessed for meeting and hiking with him. Have enjoyed the last two memorial hikes and meeting so many of Ed's friends. Hope there is going to be one this year.
I still have a goal of hiking Leconte twice in one day as Ed had done many times. Hopefully this will be the year.

Is that Henry Neel in the 'Loading the nets' photo? We have been trying to get in touch and get him to visit us in Florida. Please give him our e-mail address. Wayne and Debbie

From our home on English Mountain we had a wonderful view of the helicopters flying in and out. What a thrill to see them! It was truly a perfect day for the deliveries to be made.
