what do you do with the pieces of a broken heart? and how can a man like me remain in the light? and if life is really as short as they say, then why is the night so long?

A pain stabbed my heart, as it did every time I saw a girl I loved who was going the opposite direction in this too-big world. Kerouac
Morning y'all,

It's another beautiful day up top. The high yesterday reached 39 degrees. The low got down to 28 degrees. It was 39 degrees and clear at 7am observation. The mountain received no new precipitation and there is only patchy snow remaining up top. The trails are in good shape, I came up Alum yesterday in sneakers and carefully stepped around the few slick spots on the trail. It should be a great day, enjoy!

This is not a black and white photo.
There was plenty to be grateful for on the mountain yesterday. Once I got past the double stair on my hike up Alum, the mist thinned and I started to soak in the big views above the clouds. This big beauty shifts your perspective and your human alltoohuman problems melt away in the face of such grandeur. The beauty triumphs, making your sorrow feel petty and self indulgent. The sunset above the clouds was spectacular as always and the cloud cover stayed intact all night, creating a starshow from the 17th century without the light pollution from Pigeon Forge and Gat Vegas. Deep breaths and silent astonishment and blessed relief.

I have hiked to Mt Leconte twice.I love the Smoky mountains.I guess this post will be censored also.I will be politically correct here.Censorship from the right or the left republican or democrat is wrong. We are all entitled to our opinion.

Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion , mine of you , you're an idiot.

That is true, to a degree. But you appear to be forgetting that this website is paid for and maintained by LeConte Lodge. Why would they NOT censor it when people get negative, off track, or speak ill of the lodge? As a private enterprise, they have every right to do that.

If you don't think the lodge should exist, move to the Yukon. Complaining on a message board provided by the Lodge is not going to get you anywhere. It's a beloved institution in the most visited National Park in the country. You're entitled to your opinion, but you're outnumbered.

What a magnificent illusion the first image conjures. Looks like it could be taken from an island in the South Pacific.

It's cool how you outline the problem in your quotes, JP, then address the answer in your own words.....That's healthy!

I enjoy this site, but I wonder sometimes about some of the comments posted here. Yes, there are a few that should be and are deleted. But this morning, earlier, I read a short comment where at its end a fellow wrote that perhaps the lodge shouldn't even be there at all ! I think that the lodge is a great place, and the guy's remark, although be it in the extreme, wasn't threatening in any way. So, why was it deleted ? This post of mine might just suffer the same fate if it is in disagreement, etc. I would never support not even suggest the lodge's "removal", but a comment about that shouldn't be considered to be anything but just an opinion. I would hate to see this blog site evolve into something that censors every little contrary opinion. I am a supporter of the Park, and I have no objection to anything having to do with the lodge, just overly zealous censorship.

images such as these allow a subtle fondness to caress my soul, as if the very stardust of existence has been tasted again for the first time. Such an ancient familiar taste.
the craggy outcrops seem to be howling in awe of the Great Spirits epic scene, "across the universe" ...

Me thinks you think too much about what you cannot control....better to just sit back and let it happen. That is the joy in life!
