Won't have to wash my overhalls, or even change my socks.

High 38, Low 12.

Just want to thank the UT Women's Tennis Team for coming up and hanging out with me yesterday and bringing sugar cookies.. that was nice.

...Not really... just another very quiet day yesterday with some guys eating lunch and throwing their trash on the porch of Old Lodge, thanks guys. and a spectacular sunrise this morning. I've been looking forward to a night time full moon hike friday... but the forecast is looking like rain right now. :-/ I'll be hiking down Alum either today or tomorrow to carry down some of my winter stuff I won't need anymore, such as the 15lbs of dried beans and rice that I didn't touch haha. Looks to be nice the next couple days, enjoy it.

How thoughtful of them to leave their trash behind for others to enjoy? Will be coming Easter weekend and won't be leaving anything behind!

Some people have no respect for our planet or the rest of us who live on it. Shameful!

Hike up Leconte via Alum trail on Sunday. It was an unusal 6 hour round trip, the ice was daunting in spots... BUT IT WAS GREAT

thanks for your work this winter Alex! We sort of envy your solitude, and hope you are taking it like a champ... the blog entries have been a joy to read.

I am wondering what 6 month trail you are hiking this summer...
wonder if it's the AT? If so... maybe i'll see you there!
Peace

So rude and inconsiderate of those boys! Hope the rain holds off so you can enjoy your moon hike, but I'm selfish, I'm just hoping for some awesome pictures from that! ;)

You should have cameras somehow installed up there but I know you have no electricity. People have no respect for the land we live in. It really upsets me that people would blatantly leave trash behind for another person to clean up.

You would think, that if they were savvy enough to hike up LeConte in this weather, they would have been savvy enough to know that if you hike it in, HIKE IT OUT! Geez!

Don't blame you for being perturbed on that one, Alex.

Can't wait to make the hike. It's been warm here in Atlanta, in the 60's for three days straight....I'm starting to get the fever! :D

just one of the things that humans are good at nowadays. Leaving their mess for someone else to clean up. That and thinking they are entitled to everything under the sun. Great job up there Alex

Thanks again Alex for the awesome pics!!!

Trash where it doesn't belong is one of my pet peeves!! We have picked up other peoples trash many many times while hiking or fishing or whatever we are doing outside! My car gets trashed because I don't throw things out the window!
I can't stand walking a trail or sitting by a lake or creek and seeing trash. It takes away from the beauty!!
Enjoy what time you have left on top of the mountain!!!

Trashy people do trashy things.

Alex - I thought it was a joke that the guys left trash on the porch - like comic relief for you - really true??

Alex,

Enjoyed meeting you this afternoon! Thank you for taking time to say hello and for the daily pictures!

A lot of packed down snow and ice on the trail above Alum Bluff. Was glad I had ice spikes and hiking poles, especially on the cliffs!

Went fishing today in Chilhowee Lake. Didn’t catch squat, nor even see any fish, jumping or swimming around giving us the fin. Did see a couple of bald eagles, a pileated woodpecker and two belted kingfishers. In the mouth of Abrams Creek saw three otters. Hope they caught more fish than we did.
On the trip back home over Foothills Parkway I gazed at the snow atop the distant mountains and thought about you in your solitude on Le Conte. Your lonely sojourn is about over. You did well. Enjoyed your posts.

I got out my hiking boots yesterday and went for a short hike. It was beautiful here in Chattanooga with the temps in the 60's. Got "itchy feet" to go hiking and fishing. Want to try out a new nymph on some trout up in Elizabethton!!!
Still too early for me to try LeConte. I'm no youngster anymore.

Hi there Alex,

I just found this website and am enjoying every minute of it. Thank you so much for what you are doing. Love your photos and enjoy the commentary.

Sorry about those guys that left the mess. I'm with Jo, that is one of my pet peeves also. I hate seeing trash where it doesn't belong.

I haven't hiked to LeConte since 1996. I am hoping to hike up with my sister next year.
