Greetings valley dwellers! Turnip here, with another installment of what's what high on LeConte. Our new guy, Tate, showed up just a little while ago and he is eager to learn all the ins and outs of the lodge. We had a lost and found fashion show curtesy of Mr. Justin Cave. He is pictured here wearing a beautiful pink rain hat and "too small for you" sleep pants, which I hear is all the rage in Paris right now. No sign of yesterday's bear yet but we are keeping our eyes peeled and noses ready for any bear smells. The rain finally arrived yesterday afternoon with a quick downpour! The forecast is still calling for more rain so remember, rain gear. Our current mountain temperature is a misty 63 with last nights low reaching 55. Justin, looking fashionable as ever. He's a real "hoot" 😀

Please tell me he is a guest and not a staffer.

The bears were around very briefly. They peeked inside the windows, saw Justin, and ran several thousand feet down the mountain to Alum Cave Creek where they spent the next 6 hours washing out their eyes!!!

This is my first visit to this site and I was wondering about some lodge facts: There are no roads to the lodge ? Are bears much of a problem ? Is the lodge right on top of the peak of the mountain ? thank you..............................

thanks Chris, I have read that and the lodge has to be right on top of Mt. Leconte at the elevation listed.

Hot digity dogs! That's where my pajama pants are! I lost them and couldn't remember where on earth I put them. I must have left them up there last October! Nah....just kidding! You all have fun this week!

Interesting photo. Perhaps certain lost and found selections should remain "lost". Enjoyed my day trip to the lodge in April and intend to make second hike in October. Overnight guests commented regarding the courtesy and professionalism of the crew. I would like to add that same degree of effort is extended to day hikers.

The photo made me smile and shudder at the same time. I don't think I can unsee it.

It is seared into my retinas as well. On the bright side, I have hung it in our garden, and the squirrels and chipmunks are nowhere to be found!!!
