Your Mountain Is Waiting

The weekend is almost here. Actually, this time of year, we are busy every night. The sounds of children playing hide and seek, the laughter as they find a salamander and try and hang on to it, the chatter around the hot chocolate dispenser, and then the peace and quiet  as they all fall asleep after a day filled with new adventures. That is summer around LeConte Lodge. It makes you wonder how many kids will aspire to be a ranger, a LeConte Lodge crew member, or maybe even a llama wrangler. I did have a four year old tell me she hopes to be the llama wrangler when she grows up. Now, that is a new career path. I guess climbing Mt. LeConte can be a life changer for all ages.

It was a nice day around the lodge. The high yesterday was 69º with a low of 53º. The guests enjoyed the nightly firework display thanks to Dollywood. I still find it interesting how sound travels. You see the beautiful burst of color and then you hear the boom about 30 seconds later.

I leave you, today, with one of my favorite quotes.

“Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So… get on your way!” - Dr. Seuss

Yes, the sounds of children playing at the lodge is very nice to hear. I find it rather entertaining to hear youngsters hiking along the trails, often when they're heading up to the lodge, as they are full of glee and anticipation. Not being known for my hiking speed (my trail name is Slowwalker) I often take brief rest stops and many have been the times, and it seems like these have usually been along the Alum trail which I seldom follow anymore, when I've been sitting by the trail resting and an entourage of children with their parents and grandparents have passed by me. Hearing the conversations of the children has been delightful to say the least. Their eagerness and excitement has often given me renewed and additional impetus to continue my own journey with increased determination. Yes, the sounds of children are welcome and energetic. G;day

Dr. Seuss rocks!!! I remember when I was a kid loving his books. His life was pretty interesting too. To go from writing propaganda to Horton Hears a Who... Wow! Kids are a lot of fun, some of the questions they come up with are real zingers too. Like "how did the tree know to grow there?" Ummm.... huh?

I was able to cross off 'hiking Mt. LeConte" on my bucket list on 6/20/14. My husband and I hiked up and back on the Alum trail yesterday. WOW! Such a nice trail...a little jealous of those hiking up to spend the night. Need to add 'spend the night at the lodge' on my list now.

Making the hike is definitely a life changing experience! ... I agree with Candy above...I am adding "spend the night at the lodge" to my bucket list!! I can't WAIT to come back! I wrote a post on my blog about my hike. Hope you find the time to check it out! :)
